Let’s recognize a truly remarkable group of individuals—our local officials. They have dedicated years of their lives to the sport of basketball for our student athletes and community.

David Denk, Dean Hinker, Kent Hinker, and John Mayenschein.

To officiate basketball is no easy task. It requires unwavering focus, split-second decision-making, and thick skin. It is a role that often goes unnoticed when executed perfectly and unfairly criticized when a perceived mistake is made. Yet, year after year, they return to the court with no questions asked.

I could say these gentlemen have over 100 years of experience, but that would make them sound old. So, we will do it this way:

This is David’s 20th year of officiating basketball. Kent has no idea, but we are guessing about 25 years. Dean is in his 34th year and John is one year shy of 40 years.

On behalf of the School District of Greenwood we extend the deepest gratitude. Thank you for everything you’ve done—and continue to do—for the game of basketball. We can’t play without you.
